ALF received the following letter as a news item and we think some of our members and readers might be interested.

Dear Friends,

The Libertarian Women's Caucus is getting off the ground! Thanks to
those of you who signed up at the Portland convention and to those who
responded to the article in the Sept. LP News.

Ruth Bennett and I talked on Friday. We decided our mission right now
is very simple: Get more women in the Libertarian Party.

I announced our caucus and its mission at the LNC meeting in Washington
DC on Saturday. It received resounding support. The National Chair
and LPHQ staff have pledged their cooperation in our work. Yahoo! So
here is what I think we need to do next:

1. create a presence on the LP.org web site. We need a short statement
of why women should join the LP, and a discussion list to communicate
with each other and to give support to women newly interested in the
LP. I can arrange all this with the LP webmaster if someone creative
would write a good blurb and send it to me.

2. generate interest in Libertarian issues from a women's perspective
by writing articles for LP News. To submit an article, send it to
Editor@lp.org

3. plan opportunities for women to meet each other. For example, we
should plan to have a meeting at the state chair's conference in Orlando
next March. You may also want to organize such meetings at your state
conventions. Where else? Any ideas?

4. identify leaders in this group who can move our caucus forward.
Ruth and I can get it off the ground administratively, but we need
leadership to grow. As we get started and people step up to do
things, let's think about electing a caucus chair.

So, that's where we are. What do you think? Any other ideas or tasks
we should be doing? I will be keeping a list of people interested in
the caucus, so if you know others who want to be in our group, have them
contact me.

Thanks for your efforts on behalf of liberty and your interest in
starting the LWC.
